Evangeline is the brainchild of Glasgow songwriter, and former punk, John Naismith. Raised on a diet of Hank Williams and Buck Owens, John's first attempts at songwriting in the late 1990's 'came out all country', and he recorded a demo with long-time collaborator George Adams. Naismith/Adams came to the attention of local country DJ Willie Evans, who was invited to become band manager in November 2001. Billy Matthews (bass) joined the band in July 2001, closely followed by Dave Holland (pedal steel] and Andy Holmes (drums). Stevie Donnelly (lead guitar] completed the line-up in May 2004, and the six piece Evangeline now have two CDs of original material and hundreds of live appearances under their belt. Support slots have included Heather Myles, Joni Harms and Dale Watson, suiting perfectly the melodic blend. 2003 saw trips to Nashville (including a performance at the Bluebird
Cafe) and Los Angeles, and significant radio play as far afield as Australia
and Canada, 2004 saw the band's first appearance at the National Stadium
in Scotland, and 2005 looks like a year of festivals - suiting perfectly
the energetic show that is an Evangeline gig. |
